    Celebration!

This exhibition celebrates a broad spectrum of textures and colors inspired by gifts from family, friends and nature. I rejoice in the abstract shapes and colors of floral gifts, reinterpreted in paintings and monotype printmaking on sculpted canvas.

As an avid beachcomber, I am captivated by the never-ending variety of textures and shapes of shells and other “gifts from nature” that I find on the Delaware beaches. I combine paintings of shells, real shells and sand, extending the composition onto the sides of small deep canvases. Additionally, I explore compositions with shells in monotype printmaking, building multiple levels on canvas.

Working with texture is fun. Looking at texture evokes feelings and recollections. I’m pleased to invite viewers to a celebration of texture to discover their own personal connections.

    Mixed-media monotypes on canvas - See Printmaking - Art*Sparks - Shells
After creating a monotype on a mylar plate with water-soluble media, I transferred the image to dampened paper with my etching press. Then I cut apart my monotypes to make multiple llevels on acid free foam board, mounted on canvas. By painting each canvas with colors related to the monotype, I extended the creative process.

Relief monotypes on sculpted canvas - See Printmaking - Art*Sparks - Sculpted Flowers
First I made a monotype on a mylar plate and printed it onto dampened paper with my etching press. Then I mounted the paper print onto heavy canvas and cut out the shape of the flower. I then bent and molded the flower to make a relief monotype, further treating the canvas with a stiffening medium to hold the shape.
